Former substitute teacher gets jail, probation

FREMONT — A former Bellevue Schools substitute teacher was sentenced for a sex crime conviction. Kaiden Olson, 22, of the fifth block of E. Shoreway Drive, Sandusky, pleaded no contest to one count of disseminating matter harmful to a juvenile, a fifth-degree felony. At a May sentencing hearing, Olson was ordered to serve five years of probation. He was also ordered to serve six months in the Sandusky County Jail. He received no days of jail time credit. As of late Wednesday, Olson has been incarcerated in Sandusky County Jail since May 15. If he serves his full 6-month sentence, he should be released from jail in mid-November. He was ordered to pay court costs, but was not fined. Olson was ordered to provide a DNA sample and be fingerprinted, if those actions had not yet occurred. As a convicted felon, he is disqualified from owning or possessing a firearm. He was not labeled a sex offender. "Unfortunately, this situation is one where (Olson) is not required to register as a sex offender," Sandusky County prosecutor Beth Tischler said. "Even when the image is sent to a minor, there is no requirement to register." Background In March 2025, Bellevue Schools announced that one of its substitute teachers was under police investigation and the teacher was removed from the staff list, according to a district letter that circulated online. The letter, signed by superintendent Troy Roth and addressed to district families and staffers, states that the district was notified about the investigation on March 5, 2025. "We take any breach of professional conduct seriously," Roth said. "The well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. We expect all individuals in our schools to adhere to our code of conduct, and we hold them accountable to those expectations." The Register filed an open records request with Bellevue Schools in March 2025 and received a response approximately seven months later. Roth filed a "School District and Community School Reporting Form," which served to inform the state's education board about the alleged incident. The report, submitted by Roth on March 5, states: • Olson allegedly had inappropriate communication and use of technology/social media related to an incident dated on March 4, 2025. • Specifically, an underage student and one of the student's family members told Bellevue police that Olson had inappropriate communication with her through social media, including photos of his penis. • Sandusky County Sheriff's Office Deputy Eric Burt was contacted by the police department to conduct an interview with the student and view screenshots of the messages and photos. • Olson was then removed from the district's staff list. • Belleuve police and the Sandusky County Sheriff's Office were both contacted about the incident.
