ATV crash victim dies

MILAN TWP. — Authorities confirmed on Friday that a 13-year-old boy who was involved in an ATV-versus-SUV Milan-area crash on June 20 succumbed to his injuries on Thursday. Meanwhile, a fund has been established to help support his family in mourning. Background At about 1:45 p.m. on June 20, first responders were called to the 4000 block of Ohio 113 E. in Milan Township, Erie County, for the report of an SUV-versus-ATV crash with the ATV catching on fire. Deputies and EMTs arrived to find a wrecked white Toyota RAV4 near a utility pole on the north side of the road and a wrecked ATV on the south side of the road. A 10-year-old drove the ATV onto Ohio 113 from a private drive and was struck by the oncoming SUV, according to a media release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Two boys who were riding the ATV were injured. Law enforcement did not identify the 10-year-old, but on Friday, they identified the passenger as the late Lamonie Campbell, 13. Both were taken by ground ambulance to Fisher-Titus in Norwalk. Campbell was later flown by medical helicopter to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland. The driver of the RAV4 appeared to be uninjured, but he was checked out by first responders.
