Findlay police to release body cam footage of shooting

FINDLAY — Findlay Police will release the body-cam footage of Monday's officer-involved shooting during a press conference next week. A Friday afternoon release from police said a press conference on the incident will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, at the Findlay Municipal Building in City Council chambers, 318 Dorney Plaza. Police were dispatched to the 1900 block of Broad Ave. a little after 1 p.m. Aug. 10 for a report of a man threatening to harm himself. A caller told dispatchers the man had a weapon and then ended the call. Upon arriving at the scene, officers located Holden Smith, 37, with a gun in his hand. A release on the incident said Smith was waving the gun before pointing it towards officers. Officers attempted to negotiate with him but were unsuccessful. An unidentified officer fired one round, striking him. He was given medical aid at the scene but was later pronounced deceased at Blanchard Valley Hospital. No one else was injured. The incident is currently under investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Investigation.
