Nye's Week 3 high school football power rankings

While there won't be much change in the rankings this week, things will start to clear up with the N10 beginning league play this week. On the docket are some tasty matchups beginning with Hopewell-Loudon at Colonel Crawford and Seneca East at Calvert. Columbian will get a good test from Ontario and Bellevue heading to Shelby has the makings of a really good matchup.Here were the power rankings for Week 2: 1. H-L 2. Carey 3. Seneca East 4. Bellevue 5. Mohawk 6. Columbian 7. Upper Sandusky 8. Calvert 9. Lakota 10. Clyde 11. Buckeye Central 12. FostoriaHere we go for Week 3:1. H-L (2-0): Until someone beats the Chieftains, they'll remain atop this list. Now begins an interesting stretch for the Chieftains with a trip to Colonel Crawford and then hosting Seneca East in Week 4. H-L made the state final game last season, while CC was a state semifinalist as both teams lost to Kirtland in Division VI. The Eagles are coming off a 21-14 loss at D-IV Fairfield Union last week. The two programs have scrimmaged each other before each season for quite a few years, so they're familiar with each other. Should be a dandy in North Robinson and a nice welcome-to-the-N10 for H-L.2. Seneca East (2-0): The Tigers have had an excellent start to the football season, including the sensational start from sophomore quarterback Branson Robinson with six touchdowns and no interceptions. He is 41 of 49 passing (83.7%) right now, which is ridiculous for your first two starts. While the games will be get tougher, if SE can get production from the QB like that, it could certainly be a special season in Attica.3. Bellevue (2-0): This will be a good test this week for the Redmen on the road at Shelby. Even though the Whippets lost a talented QB to graduation, surely Shelby will still be solid. Bellevue has scored 42 points in each of its first two games, so with the defense the Redmen play, that's a good combination so far. Can they keep it up this week?4. Mohawk (1-1): As I predicted, it was a week to get their frustration out and get some things right as Mohawk demolished Cardington-Lincoln last Friday. Now begins a really favorable stretch for the Warriors as they don't play a team that made the playoffs last year until Colonel Crawford in Week 8.5. Columbian (2-0): It was an interesting end of the week for TC last week as it found out it was actually 1-0 and then took care of business at Mansfield Senior. The "win" over Fremont Ross is a big one for playoff positioning, but a win this week against a good Ontario program might be the start of something special for the Tornadoes.6. Carey (0-2): From what it sounded like, Carey had a real chance to take down Galion last week, but just couldn't punch it into the end zone at the end of the game. Carey is typically a team that begins slow out of the gate, but then turns things on when the N10 slate begins. The Blue Devils travel to Lucas this week, so I would think their first win of the season is coming Friday.7. Upper Sandusky (1-1): I really thought Upper Sandusky had a good chance to be 3-0 heading into a rivalry showdown with Carey in Week 4. But a 27-25 loss to Mount Gilead derailed that. The Rams are improved, but we won't be able to tell by how much until Week 4 as Wynford is not the same Wynford it has been in the past.8. Lakota (1-1): How about the Raiders with a 39-0 beat down on the road at Hicksville last week. With games against Arcadia (1-1), Northridge (0-2) and Crestline (1-1) before SBC play opens with Margaretta, the Raiders could build some momentum.9. Clyde (1-1): I just had a feeling with how much pride Clyde has in that football program that after a 42-0 embarrassing loss to rival Bellevue in Week 1 was not going to sit well with the Fliers, even with a new coach. The Fliers returned to form with a 33-6 win over D-II Toledo Start, but it doesn't get any easier with a trip to D-II Ashland (2-0) Friday.10. Calvert (0-2): The Senecas almost picked up their first win of the season Friday at rival Norwalk St. Paul in a 14-10 loss. With an N10 gauntlet coming up, including SE, Colonel Crawford, Lucas, Carey and H-L … is there a win in sight?11. Buckeye Central (1-1): The Bucks have a real shot at showing just how good of a team they have this season with a trip to Mohawk this week. 12. Fostoria (0-2): While the Redmen are improved from last season, they're still winless. This week a smaller Woodmore comes to town, but the Wildcats are 2-0 and have had success recently vs. the Redmen.
