Nye's Week 4 high school football power rankings

While there were some close games in Week 3, there weren't that many as teams are now starting to establish identities and figure out what their teams do best. The headline matchup this week will be a big N10 showdown in Bascom as the unbeaten Seneca East Tigers take on unbeaten Hopewell-Loudon. SE plowed through Calvert last week, while H-L was tested for the first time this season, pulling away from Colonel Crawford on the road. We're about to see how good the Tigers really are this week.Other than that big matchup, Upper Sandusky at Carey will be a good one. Always a big rivalry between those two.Again, these are power rankings about how the season is going for each team – not a head-to-head rankings – because we have schools in divisions III-VII.Here were the rankings in Week 3: 1. H-L 2. Seneca East 3. Bellevue 4. Mohawk 5. Columbian 6. Carey 7. Upper Sandusky 8. Lakota 9. Clyde 10. Calvert 11. Buckeye Central 12. FostoriaSo, here we go for Week 4:1. H-L (3-0, 1-0 N10): As I stated last week, until someone beats H-L, it will be topping this list every week this season. Could that happen this week? We'll see. SE has played really well to open the season, but the Tigers haven't played anyone with the talent level H-L possesses. The Chieftains showed a lot of toughness, mettle and championship pedigree in the win at Colonel Crawford last week.2. SE (3-0, 1-0 N10): The Tigers took care of business last week with a drubbing of Calvert. The Senecas put up a good fight for a bit before the Tigers took control. This is the game at H-L that can really boost SE into the upper echelon of the N10 or will they come back down to earth a bit? Can the young QB continue his hot start to the season? All will be revealed Friday night in Bascom.3. Bellevue (2-1): Bellevue put up a good fight on the road at Shelby last week, so the Redmen will remain at No. 3 this week. Shelby is one of the best teams in D-IV and the Redmen played with the Whippets for a lot of the game, but came up on the losing end. I'm sure there are some good takeaways and some things to improve for Bellevue, which will be put into the Norwalk game this week. I fully expect Bellevue to bounce back this week.4. Mohawk (2-1, 1-0 N10): After a tough road loss in Week 1, the Warriors are starting to put things together now. With a favorable stretch in the schedule until Week 8 I look for Mohawk to continue to roll.5. Carey (1-2, 1-0 N10): Tripp Phoenix and the Blue Devils got in the win column last week with a blowout victory at Lucas. Can they duplicate that with a win over rival Upper Sandusky this week? We'll see.6. Columbian (2-1): TC showed glimpses of how good it could be the season. But that's all they were – glimpses. Ontario was multi-faceted offensively being able to throw the ball and pound it on the ground really well last Friday and TC had a hard time adjusting, giving up 49 points. Now Lima Senior comes to town to throw the ball all over the field, so with injuries in the secondary and some blown coverages, hopefully TC addresses those quickly this week.7. Upper Sandusky (2-1, 1-0 N10): The Rams rolled over Wynford last week as they now get prepared to take on rival Carey on the new turf field over there. The Rams have not beaten the Blue Devils since 2015. Not many matchups have even been close, but if the Rams want to take that next step, they have to topple their rival.8. Lakota (2-1): The Raiders got by Arcadia last week 28-21 to grab their second win. Now with games with Northridge and Crestline before SBC play begins, the Raiders can really gain some momentum.9. Clyde (1-2): The Fliers took a good Ashland team to the wire last Friday on the road, but fell a little short. Now the Fliers play Bedford, MI., this week. Clyde always plays a challenging schedule, so we'll see how well they fare this week against an unfamiliar opponent.10. Calvert (0-3, 0-1 N10): Calvert withstood a talented SE team for quite a while Friday, but the Tigers pulled away in the end. Sadly, things get even tougher this week with a trip to a mad Colonel Crawford, who's lost two games in a row. 11. Buckeye Central (1-2, 0-1 N10): The Bucks have a good chance to get back to .500 this week on the road at Wynford.12. Fostoria (0-3): Derek Angelone just has to keep his team together during another tough start to a season. While the Redmen are certainly improved, a win does seem far away still. However, after the next two weeks (Oak Harbor and Eastwood), a win could come later in the season.
