Ohio COVID-19 numbers jump to 2,900 cases, 81 deaths

Ohio's confirmed cases of COVID-19 jumped to 2,900 and 16 more people died between Wednesday and Thursday, according to the Ohio Department of Health website. The total number reported Thursday was 2,902, up 355 from 2,547 Wednesday, 2,199 Tuesday, 1,933 Monday and 1,653 Sunday. Seneca County confirmed cases remained at five with one person recovered and one death. In neighboring counties: Wood, 18 (11 hospitalized); Hancock, 9 (4 hospitalized); Crawford, 7; Sandusky, 5 (5 hospitalized); Huron, 4 (1 death); Wyandot, 2. Counties with 50 or more cases are: Cuyahoga, 663 (12 deaths); Franklin, 441 (5 deaths); Lucas, 206 (3 deaths); Mahoning, 192 (11 deaths); Hamilton, 178 (2 deaths); Summit, 155 (7 deaths); Lorain, 90 (2 deaths); Medina, 68 (1 death); Stark, 67 (3 deaths); Trumbull, 63 (6 deaths); Miami, 62 (8 deaths); Lake, 62 (3 deaths); Portage, 59 (2 deaths); and Delaware, 50 (1 death). ODH reported 802 hospitalized statewide and 260 in intensive care units, compared to 679 hospitalized with 222 in ICU Wednesday and 585 Tuesday and 200 in ICU. The age range of confirmed cases in Ohio is from younger than 1 to age 99. About half are men and half are women. In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website Thursday reported 213,144 cases and 4,513 deaths, compared to 186,101 cases with 3,603 deaths Wednesday, 163,539 cases and 2,860 deaths Tuesday, 140,904 cases and 2,405 deaths Monday, and 122,653 cases and 2,112 deaths Sunday. Statistics are from all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Marianas and U.S. Virgin Islands. The most cases are still in New York, estimated to be topping 92,000. Worldwide, the Coronavirus Dashboard (ncov2019.live/data) reported the worldwide number exceeded 1 million cases Thursday, topping 928,000 Wednesday, 814,000 Tuesday, 771,000 Monday, 711,000 Sunday and 561,965 Friday. Of the total, more than 52,000 people have reportedly died, increase the death toll from 46,000 Wednesday, 39,500 Tuesday, 37,000 Monday, 33,500 Sunday and 26,700 Friday. The site reported almost 207,000 people have recovered, up from 189,000 Wednesday, 171,000 Tuesday and 165,000 Monday.
