Republic man charged with vehicular manslaughter after fatal accident

A Republic man has been charged in connection to an accident that claimed the life of another Republic man. Calvin J. Robinson, 74, was charged with vehicular manslaughter, a second-degree misdemeanor, according to Tiffin-Fostoria Municipal Court. A not-guilty plea was entered, according to court records. The charge follows a two-vehicle accident at TR 183 and CR 24 in January. Robinson was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado south on TR 183, and Matthew D. Potts, 35, was driving a 2005 Ford Explorer east on CR 24. Robinson failed to stop at a stop sign, and his Chevrolet Silverado struck the Ford Explorer, according to court records. The Ford Explorer went off the right side of the road and overturned, and the Chevrolet Silverado went off the left side of the road. Trooper Brandon Dean of the Norwalk post of State Highway Patrol had said Potts was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Robinson was wearing a seatbelt and was not hurt, he said. Potts partially was thrown from the vehicle and was extricated by mechanical means, according to court records.
