Local businesses make changes as COVID-19 pandemic rages

Gov. Mike DeWine announced Sunday from the Ohio Department of Health, all Ohio bars and restaurants will be closed to in-house patrons. Restaurants and bars in the downtown are developing plans to continue to serve customers. Sabaidee Coffee and Crepes will be offering carry-outs and curb-side pick-up. For more information, call (567) 938-6025. Sabaidee is also not currently taking cash as a safety precaution. Bailiwicks Coffee Company will also be offering carry-outs for customers. In addition, Bailiwicks offers delivery options through trEats Tiffin. trEats Tiffin is a locally owned and operated delivery service. The Laird Arcade Brewery will be open for their growler fills only, times are yet to be determined. The Renaissance of Tiffin will also offer carry-out for beer, wine and draft growlers. Customers are to bring their own growler. The Renaissance will also be providing employee's Venmo accounts for anyone who would like to support their favorite bartenders. For those who donate, The Renaissance will pay for your first drink when they are able to open their doors to the public. DeWine said restaurants with take-out and delivery options will still be able to operate. According to the release from DeWine's office, "The order was issued ahead of the St. Patrick's Day holiday, which commonly would attract large groups of people to bars and restaurants across the state. This would make "social distancing" impossible in many circumstances. This is known by healthcare providers to be among the most effective ways to slow the spread of the disease, due to the high rate and speed of transmission in COVID-19." "Our goal is for everyone to get through this," said DeWine said in the release. "Our hope is that next St. Patrick's Day, everyone will be there and that they'll have the opportunity to live their life and live their American dream. But, if people are not around, they can't do that." Also announced Sunday were steps the administration is taking to offer assistance to Ohio businesses and individuals impacted by these changes. There will be enhanced unemployment aid for Ohioans, which can be obtained by contacting the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The Ohio Development Services Agency is to also prepare an application to be submitted for Ohio to qualify for the U.S. Small Business Administrations Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program..
