Shuff announces candidacy for county commissioner

Tyler Shuff, of Tiffin, has announced his candidacy for Seneca County commissioner. Shuff, age 34, has been a member of Tiffin City Council for almost 12 years, after originally being elected at age 23. He said he still plans to work within Tiffin, but wants expand his public service to the entire county. "I want to take that momentum and take it countywide," he said. "I'm very excited about this." Shuff said his friends and family are in Seneca County and he's not planning to move anywhere else. Even if people aren't related by blood, he said there's a family feeling of people in Seneca County. "These are the people I want to serve," he said. "My heart's here." During the last few months, he said several deaths of people close to him – his father, grandfather, best friend, two fellow councilmen and others – have made him think about life. "It woke me up and made me realize life is short," he said. "You have to do what you love. And what I love is public service. "I want to get things done for Seneca County and I'm ready to work," he said. Shuff said his experience in city government transfers well to county government. "You got to have thick skin, but it's seeing things happen," he said. "We live in a beautiful place here and I just want to build on that." Shuff said he's developed a network of people from his years on city council and in managing his business, Shuff Consulting, managing the Laird Arcade for Tiffin Community Reinvestment Group and working with his partners in S&E Rentals. "I met a lot of people along the way," he said. "We've been getting some really great things done in the city and I want to extend that to the county. "It's fun to find solutions and work together with other people and get things done," he said. "I really want to work with the different townships and villages to see what their needs are." "You got to do what you love and this is what I love doing," he said. "My ears are open. I'm young. I'm energetic and I want to help people. "I'm going into it with an open mind and an open heart," he said. "I feel like it'll be a very smooth transition."
