Judge files petitions to seek third term Judge Jay Meyer of Seneca County Juvenile and Probate Court has filed petitions at Seneca County Board of Elections to seek a third term. Meyer, a lifelong Tiffin resident, filed to appear on the Republican ballot in the March primary election. "The past almost eleven years at the Juvenile and Probate Court have been very exciting and full of positive change," Meyer said in a release. "Because of the support of our community partners and the public we serve, our Court is making a bigger and more positive impact than ever." Meyer shepherded the move of court operations to the handicap-accessible Seneca County Justice Center in 2018. Meyer and Seneca County Youth Center collaborated with area schools to develop Time to Invest, which is a day treatment program that provides an alternative to detention for low-risk youth offenders, according to the release. The court also expanded its mediation and community service/restitution programs. Meyer is a graduate of Columbian High School and Ohio Northern University and has served as assistant Seneca County prosecutor, an associate and partner for Shuff Law Offices, and acting judge in Tiffin Municipal Court. For more information about the court, visit www.senecajpcourt.com. Tiffin man sentenced to prison A Tiffin man admitted he violated his community control. Anthony B. Dawson, 33, admitted the violation during a hearing in Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Steve Shuff's courtroom. Court records state Dawson had been convicted of four counts of trafficking in heroin, all fifth-degree felonies, and was sentenced to 22 months in prison in 2017. He had been granted judicial release, and his sentence was modified to three years of community control. He violated the terms of his community control in April, and his community control was continued, court records state. Shuff revoked Dawson's community control and ordered him to serve 22 months in prison, with credit for 355 days served, they state. Dawson must pay a $520 fine. Man sentenced to prison for violation A Bellevue man admitted he violated the terms of his community control. Nicholas C. Lacourse, 30, admitted the violation during a hearing in Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Steve Shuff's courtroom, court records state. Lacourse had been convicted of a charge of failure to provide notice of residence address change, a third-degree felony, and was sentenced to three years of community control. Shuff revoked Lacourse's community control and sentenced him to 18 months in prison, with credit for 220 days served, according to court records. Woman's community control revoked A Fostoria woman's community control was revoked during a hearing in Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Steve Shuff's courtroom. Randelle R. Castellanos, 34, admitted she violated the terms of her community control, according to court records. She had been convicted of a charge of aggravated trafficking in drugs, a third-degree felony, and sentenced to three years of community control. Shuff revoked her community control and ordered her to serve two years in prison, with credit for 98 days served. It is to be served concurrently to a Lucas County sentence, according to court records. Castellanos must pay a $120 fine with the co-defendant. Man's community control continued A Fostoria man admitted he violated the terms of his community control. Brian S. Hickle, 35, admitted the violation during a hearing in Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Steve Shuff's courtroom, according to court records. Hickle had been convicted of a charge of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, and sentenced to three years of community control. Shuff continued Hickle's community control and granted credit for 134 days served in Seneca County Jail, court records state. Hickle must enter and complete counseling through Rigel Recovery Services with medication-assisted treatment, if needed, and undergo drug and/or alcohol urinalysis as directed by Seneca County's drug intensive probation officer, according to court records.
