Burgoon man pronounced deceased at accident scene

A Burgoon man was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident in Pleasant Township on Saturday. Sgt. Kent Jeffries of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol said John C. Roush, 75, was pronounced dead at the scene by a North Central EMS crew member. "It appears to be medically related. I don't know when he died," he said. Jeffries said Roush was driving a 2015 Chevrolet truck. It went off the right side of TR 72, across a farm field and CR 61, and into the yard of a house. The truck clipped the corner of a pole barn at 981 W. CR 61 and came to rest in a bean field. There was no breaking or swerving, Jeffries said. Jeffries estimated 12 feet of siding was damaged. "That's the only damage to the truck," he said about the truck hitting the barn. Jeffries said Roush was not wearing a seatbelt. The barn was struck at its electric panel, and American Electric Power responded to disconnect power. Personnel from Seneca County Sheriff's Office and Old Fort Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene of the accident, which was reported at 11:50 a.m. Life Flight initially had been requested to the scene, then was placed on standby and then was canceled, according to the sheriff's office.
