Youth who left Seneca County Youth Center taken into custody

A 16-year-old boy who left Seneca County Youth Center Sunday morning was taken into custody about 50 minutes later. Tiffin Fire Rescue Division and Sycamore Volunteer Fire Department were summoned for a youth caught in razor wire trying to escape, according to Seneca County Sheriff's Office. The youth went through a lot to a corn field, according to the sheriff's office. Tiffin Police Department assisted with setting up a perimeter, and Fostoria Police Department's canine responded. The boy was caught about 50 minutes after the incident was reported to the sheriff's office, according to the sheriff's office. Officer Brent Riley found the teenager at a US 224 bridge. The boy was walking along the edge of a cornfield and complied, Riley said. Tiffin Fire Rescue Division responded to St. Francis Avenue and transported the boy to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital. The boy had been taken to Seneca County Youth Center after an assault was reported at West Market and South Sandusky streets on Friday afternoon. Sgt. Rob Bour of Tiffin Police Department said the boy allegedly assaulted another youth on the way home from school. Officers went looking for him, and he took off running when he saw a police cruiser, Bour said. Officers chased the boy. He was found hiding under a porch, was taken into custody, had marijuana on his person and ran because he thought there was a warrant, Bour said. The boy was charged with assault and obstructing official business after the incident Friday, he said.
