Upper Sandusky teen dies in accident on SR 231 Thursday

An Upper Sandusky teen died in a single-vehicle accident on SR 231 Thursday afternoon. Gabrielle S. Swartz, 16, who died in the accident, was a front-seat passenger in a vehicle driven by Hannah M. Balduf, 17, according to a release from Wyandot County Sheriff's Office. Balduf was transported by Wyandot County EMS to Wyandot Memorial Hospital and later was taken by Medflight to Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus, the release states. A rear-seat passenger was transported by Wyandot County EMS to Wyandot Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released Thursday, the release states. Wyandot County Sheriff's Office got the call at 3:39 p.m. and a deputy responded to the accident near 3849 SR 231 along with Sycamore Volunteer Fire and Rescue, it states. Swartz was found unconscious in the front seat of the vehicle, it states. The deputy and firefighters gained entry into the vehicle and began providing care for Swartz, it states. Swartz was pronounced dead on the scene by Wyandot County Coroner Peter Schuler, the release states. According to the Wyandot County Sheriff's Office, Balduf was driving northbound on SR 231 when the vehicle went off the right side of the road. Balduf over-corrected and the vehicle then went off the left side of the road where it struck multiple fixed objects, the release states. The vehicle then went airborne and struck a tree and finally came to a rest next to a cornfield, it states. The rear seat passenger was the only person wearing a seat belt, it states.
