Man who was barricaded transferred to a Toledo hospital

A man who had been barricaded inside a residence Wednesday night was transferred to Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center. About 8:15 p.m., Tiffin Police Department had been sent to 17 Miami St. for a disturbance and learned Kristopher B. McEwen, 40, had been drinking and threatening harm, according to a release. Before police arrived, the man used a razor or a knife and cut both of his wrists and neck, Sgt. Jake DeMonte said. DeMonte said the man told police he had a gun, was going to shoot them and wanted them to shoot him. Negotiators tried to talk McEwen into coming out of an upstairs bedroom so he could get medical care for his self-inflicted wounds, and he came out of the room after an hour and a half and still refused to give up, according to the release. Police were able to draw him to the stairwell to talk. He was shot with a Taser, was taken into custody and had several self-inflicted cuts all over his body, DeMonte said. McEwen was taken by Tiffin Fire Rescue Division to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital and later was taken to Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center, according to the release.
