Richard H. Behm

Richard H. Behm, 70, of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, died Thursday, July 11, 2019, at home of heart complications. He was a retired English professor at University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Mary Behm (Norby) of Stevens Point; his devoted daughter, Jessica Behm and her partner, John; three grandchildren, Lilya, Lilac and Johnny of New York, New York; a brother, Steven C. (Kathy) Behm of Tiffin; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delmer and Jane (Wolph) Behm; his sister, Martha (Tony) Ross; and his brother, Bob (Dawn) Behm. Richard attended The University of St. Thomas earning his degree in English. After graduating he served in the U.S. Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant. Later he earned his MFA and PhD from Bowling Green State University. He cherished his 30 year tenure as a Professor of English at University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point where he directed and affected his students for many years beyond his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsmen, writer and poet. His poems were published across multiple journals and his outdoor articles may be found in Field & Stream, Sporting Classics, Sports Illustrated and Wisconsin Outdoor. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
