Man arrested after accident

FOSTORIA — A man from Mexico was arrested after an accident at North and Countyline streets Tuesday afternoon. Severiano R. Arias, 55, of Peurto Escondido, was charged with failure to yield the right-of-way and failure to stop after an accident. He was in Hancock County Justice Center on Tuesday, Chief Keith Loreno of Fostoria Police Department said. Arias was driving a semi east on West North Street, turning north onto Countyline Street. Jane Runion, 73, of New Riegel, was driving a Ford sedan, and the car struck a house, causing minor damage, Loreno said. Loreno said a Fostoria Fire Division ambulance was summoned to North and Countyline streets and took a person to ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital. He said he was unsure who was transported. Loreno said law enforcement was unable to get the semi stopped until it was on Jones Road, east of Countyline Street. Loreno said Fostoria's canine could smell something drug-related in the semi, and a search was conducted. He did not disclose Tuesday what was found in the semi. Motor carrier enforcement and border patrol officials assisted. The accident was reported about 12:15 p.m.
