Man flown by Life Flight after semi accident

McCUTCHENVILLE — A Washington man was flown from the scene of a semi accident on SR 53, near TR 26, Monday morning. Trooper Sean Williams of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol said Michael D. Tyner Jr., 22, of Missouri, was driving a 2019 Freightliner hauling about 40,000 pounds of onions. Sgt. Mike Walter said the semi was driving north on SR 53, and the driver failed to negotiate the curve. The semi went off the right side of the road and rolled onto its passenger side. Williams said Tyner had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital. He said he believed Tyner was wearing a seatbelt, and Tyner was going to be cited with failure to control. The passenger, Seth S. Schermerhorn, 48, of Washington, was flown from the scene by Life Flight to Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center. He was in the sleeper cab and was not wearing a seatbelt, Williams said. He had "serious" injuries and was responsive, Williams said. Schermerhorn's condition was not available from Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center Monday. Personnel from NBS EMS District, Bascom EMS, the county's Echo unit, Sycamore Volunteer Fire Department, Ohio Department of Transportation and John's Welding & Towing assisted. The accident occurred about 8:30 a.m.
