Man injured in accident involving school bus

MCCUTCHENVILLE — A man was injured in a three-vehicle accident involving a school bus on SR 53 Thursday morning. According to a Wyandot County Sheriff's Office report, Daniel M. Burks, 64, of Sycamore, was stopped south at 993 SR 53 in a Mohawk Local School District school bus, with Janet Shock, 49, of Tiffin, and eight students. Sarah M. Stromack, 29, of LaGrange, was stopped behind the school bus in a 2011 Honda Accord, it states. Eric G. Godfrey, 39, of Tiffin, was traveling south on SR 53 in a 2017 Ford Focus. Lt. Neil Riedlinger of Wyandot County Sheriff's Office said the school bus had just completed loading students, shut off its emergency lights and started southbound on SR 53, and the Honda Accord had just started to move. Godfrey failed to see the stopped bus and vehicle, and his Ford struck the Honda Accord, which then rear-ended the school bus as it was starting to pull away, he said. The Ford Focus overturned and landed on its roof in the road, Riedlinger said. The school bus pulled around and stopped after the accident, he said. Riedlinger said Stromack was transported by Upper Sandusky EMS to Wyandot Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Nobody on the school bus was injured, he said. Riedlinger said Godfrey was cited with assured clear distance ahead. All the drivers involved were wearing seatbelts, a report states. The accident was reported at 7:09 a.m. Deputy Michael Hoy of Wyandot County Sheriff's Office said another accident occurred as a result of the school bus-involved accident. Hoy said William E. Bernard, 69, of Tiffin, was in a 2006 Buick Lucerne stopped south in traffic due to the other accident. Andrew R. Parker, 20, of McCutchenville, was traveling south on SR 53 in a 2003 Buick LeSabre, did not see the accident and struck the back of the Buick Lacerne, he said. Hoy said Parker was cited with assured clear distance ahead. Bernard and Parker were both treated at the scene and were not transported to a hospital, he said. Hoy said both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. He said SR 53 was closed for about an hour and a half while crews worked at both accidents. The accident was reported at 7:12 a.m. Sycamore Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Upper Sandusky EMS, Wyandot County Sheriff's Office, State Highway Patrol, and Danner's Towing responded to the accidents, according to a Wyandot County Sheriff's Office spokesman.
