Clyde-GS board gets updates from principals, curriculum director

CLYDE — Clyde-Green Springs Exempted Village School board members met Monday evening in Clyde City Council chambers. High School Principals Joe Webb and Ryan Norris plus Curriculum Director Joe Letterhos reported on the recent ACT testing that juniors participated in. The district has an ASPIRE game plan starting with sixth-graders followed by a Prepare for Success program for high schoolers. Letterhos thanked Green Springs Elementary for their house parties, where older students interact with younger students. Norris noted that district band and choir competitions are upcoming. Letterhos informed board members that several grants are being sought. One grant is seeking $10,000 for smart TVs for the Take Flight Center, a second is a school improvement grant and lastly, a proposal is being written for a 21st Century grant for funding the WSOS program. Transportation Director Dan Shafer stated that state bus inspections would begin soon and he is seeking quotes on two new buses, comparing diesel and gas. The district is expecting the delivery of a new van in March. Vicky Nieset, food service director, thanked the board for her department's new van, which she said makes deliveries to various school facilities a much easier job. Board members entered into executive session for the discussion of employment and compensation of a public employee. In other action, board members: • Approved the treasurer's report that noted $170,000 has been earned in interest on invested funds this school year. • Approved a resolution accepting the amounts and rates as determined by the budget commission, and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the Sandusky County auditor. • Approved the contract and service agreement with TSA Consulting Group establishing TSA Consulting Group as the plan administrator for the district's 403(b) and 457(b) plans. • Approved the Adoption Agreement and Plan document for the 457(b) plan. • Approved the Adoption Agreement and Plan document for the 403(b) plan. • Granted continuing contracts to classified staff members who have completed 18-month probationary contracts. • Approved class changes for some certified staff members. • Employed teachers for the after-school literacy program at Green Springs Elementary for grades K-3, Feb. 19 through April 19 at the current tutor rate. • Employed teachers for the after-school literacy program at Clyde Elementary grades K-3, Feb. 19 through April 19. • Employed non-certificated persons for extra duty jobs during the 2018-19 school year. • Employed Jake Jenne as coach for the CHS track team. • Approved inter-district open enrollment for 2019-20. • Approved intra-district open enrollment for the 2019-20 school year. • Approved the College Credit Plus agreement with Terra State Community College for 2019-20 school year. • Approved the contract proposal services for the district by Republic Services for sanitation needs. • Approved a waver day for McPherson Middle School on May 24. • Accepted gifts and donation. The board of education is to meet next at 6 p.m. March 25.
