Bloomville pool getting ready for swim season

BLOOMVILLE — Bloomville council met Wednesday evening with four members present. Street Superintendent Rick Dentinger's report noted he plans to contact Renosys, the company making repairs to the swimming pool, about painting the pool because he would like to fill the pool in mid-May to warm the water before opening day June 1. Officer-in-Charge Don Holmer said the new bulletproof vest for his department should arrive in mid-May. Holmer reported three junk vehicles have been removed from the village, but another without a title is a problem. He reminded residents since mowing has started, that grass must not be blown into the street and lawns are to be no higher than six inches. Holmer reported the department's computer is in need of repairs and council granted that approval. Council also approved disconnecting the police department phone as long as there is no long-term contract clause. If disconnected, residents are to call the village office. Resident Barry Hassinger said vehicles are parking at the village laundromat all day. After discussion, council decided to post two-hour parking signs for the spaces. Needing to pass two emergency resolutions but lacking five members for approval, council set a special session for 8:15 p.m. today to consider legislation for a Nature Works grant and the Seneca County Park District community grant. In other action, council: • Paid bills. • Reminded residents Tuesday is Election Day. • Awarded the contract to M& B Asphalt Co. for street paving for a $49,850 quote. • Heard Buckeye Central students will be visiting the village May 11 for cleanup at the park and application. • Announced the Memorial Day parade starts at 10 a.m. May 26 with line-up forming at West New Haven and Douglas streets at 9 a.m. • Learned juveniles needing community service hours will be in the village painting hydrants as weather warms. • Announced the community garage sales June 1-2. Those participating should register at the village office to be included on the map provided to shoppers. • Heard the second reading of the resolution establishing the pool rates and setting the hourly pay rates for lifeguards, lifeguards-in-training and cage workers. • Heard the second reading of a resolution requesting the estimated property tax revenues from the county auditor. • Heard the second reading of the resolution authorizing the mayor and clerk to apply for Nature Works grant funding by June 1. • Heard the North Central Ohio Educational Service Center is conducting a Lunch and Learning program Friday, presenting its public service announcements to students, parents, administrators and community members about tobacco, alcohol and drug use. • Learned Wednesday is Bike to Work or School Day. • Learned the Lions Club is donating 11 yards of mulch for the park. Council is to meet at 7 p.m. May 16.
