T-SPL to host 'Road Scholar' program The adult services department at Tiffin-Seneca Public Library is to host "Get Schooled About Road Scholar" at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 29 in the Frost Kalnow Room of the library, 77 Jefferson St. Road Scholar ambassador Carol Becker is to explain what Road Scholar does and ways to get involved. The program is an adult education program that offers 5,500 educational travel adventures that serve more than 100,000 participants annually. MCL announces adult winter reading program SYCAMORE — Mohawk Community Library is to sponsor a Winter Reading for Adults program starting Monday at the library, 200 S. Sycamore Ave. Adult patrons are encouraged to make a bingo by reading five books in a row on cards distributed at the circulation desk. Immediate prizes are to be awarded by spinning a wheel and drawings for five prize baskets are to take place at the end of the program Feb. 17. MCL to sponsor children's reading program SYCAMORE — Mohawk Community Library is sponsoring Winter Reading for Kids starting Jan. 29 at the library, 200 S. Sycamore Ave. The program is to kick-off with a special appearance by Batman at 6 p.m. Jan. 29 in the Community Meeting room. Patrons are to be able to take photos with Batman and join the program. Prizes are to be awarded throughout the three-week event, ending Feb. 17. TCS board to meet Tiffin City Board of Education is to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Tiffin Middle School cafetorium, 103 Shepherd Drive. Retired Teachers to award scholarship Seneca County Retired Teachers Association announced it again is to award a scholarship to a high school senior residing in Seneca County who plans to pursue a career in education. Funding for the grant is obtained through voluntary contributions made by SCRTA members. Interested students can check for details with their high school's guidance office. The application package must be submitted by April 13. The scholarship winner will be notified after May 18. Camp scholarships available The Tiffin Branch of American Association of University Women is offering scholarships to Seneca County girls to attend the Ohio AAUW Be WISE Camp. Be WISE is a STEM (science-technology-engineering-mathematics) camp designed to develop interest, excitement and self-confidence in girls who are entering the seventh and eighth grades in the fall of 2018. The week-long residential camp for girls from Ohio is to take place June. 10-15 on the campus of Denison University in Granville. Be WISE Camp features a separate curriculum for each grade level that is to provide critical thinking, problem solving and real-world activities. The cost is $525, which includes room, board and educational materials. The Tiffin Branch of AAUW is to provide each camper with $262 toward the cost. TMS December students of the month Tiffin Middle School announced the students of the month for December. Students include Lexi Blodgett, Alexander Albert, Alex Bupp, Dakota Alford, Mason Garcia, Kaelynn Norville, Anna Reuter, Aidan Smith, Mya Mattox, Alexis Healy, Olivia Raubenolt and Brody Conley. Youngstown graduates YOUNGSTOWN — More than 600 students were awarded undergraduate and advanced degrees and certificates at Youngstown State University's fall commencement ceremonies. Local students earning degrees included Brook Wise of Tiffin, bachelor's degree in applied science and allied health, and Taylor Fletcher of Carey, bachelor's degree in business administration and accounting. Iowa State dean's list AMES, Iowa — Rachel Flood of Sycamore was among the 9,575 Iowa State University students who have been recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being named to the fall semester 2017 dean's list. Coastal Carolina dean's list CONWAY, S.C. — Kimberly Boyer of Bettsville was named to the fall 2017 semester dean's list at Coastal Carolina University. Stone Lab seeking students COLUMBUS — Stone Laboratory is asking for college undergraduates to apply for its 2018 Research Experience for Undergraduates Scholarship Program. Scholarships are due by Feb. 5. Students selected for the REU program receive a full scholarship, including lab fee, room, meals and in-state tuition for the second-credit research experience and a four-credit, five-week course at Stone Laboratory. Tiffin man honored REYNOLDSBURG — A Tiffin business owner was among 36 people who were recognized at the 93rd Ohio Fair Managers Association's annual convention at Greater Columbus Convention Center for outstanding service to their local fairs. Chuck Clouse, who owns Clouse Electric in Tiffin, was honored for Seneca County Fair. Connie Coppus recognized with volunteer award Connie Coppus was recognized with the Volunteer of the Quarter Award at Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital. There are about 110 volunteers who help fulfill Mercy's mission of caring for the sick and injured by giving their time and talent. The Volunteer Excellence Award is presented each quarter and then annually to a volunteer who is nominated by either a fellow volunteer or Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital employees. Coppus earned the 2017 fourth quarter award. She has been a volunteer for Mercy since 2014 spending her volunteer hours in the gift shop.
