Kendall featured at Y-Wives craft show

This year, the annual YMCA fundraiser will feature a stained and fused glass artist with 40 years of experience as its featured vendor. The Y-Wives Holiday Extravaganza is to take place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Tiffin Community YMCA. Ben Kendall, former owner and operator of Sundance Glassworks of Huron, has been working with glass for many years after his time serving in the U.S. Army from 1966-69. "I have been participating in the event for several years," Kendall said. "It is always enjoyable and one of my favorite shows to do. It is special to be chosen." Over the years Kendall has lived in California where his interest in glasswork was heightened. There he owned a glass studio and, in 1986, moved back to Ohio. "I enjoy working with my hands," Kendall said. "I enjoy the reaction I get from people when they see my work." He typically makes fused glass jewelry such as pendants, necklaces, bracelets and earrings. He even makes tie and money clips for men. Kendall has done commissioned work for churches in repairing and refurbishing stained-glass windows as well as work for homes and businesses. When he is not working on his own pieces, Kendall has been teaching at Ehove Joint Vocational Center for five years. A lunch will be served at 11 a.m. and there will be free babysitting 10 a.m.-3 p.m. There is free shuttle service throughout the day and door prizes. Donations will be accepted at the door. There will be 116 vendors providing crafts. "This is a great event for the YMCA and our community," Angie Dornauer, co-chairwoman for the Y-Wives event, said. "The community works together with all the Y-Wives to make this a special event." The profits from the event are to be used for special projects that serve the community in accordance with the YMCA mission. "The event is exciting and fun for all ages," Dornauer said. "Santa Claus has been known to make a special appearance."
