Woman who jumped from city car dies

A Tiffin woman who jumped out of a Tiffin city vehicle while being taken to Seneca County Jail last week died at Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center. Seneca County Sheriff Bill Eckelberry said the hospital informed Seneca County Sheriff's Office that Jessica Poole, 35, was pronounced dead Friday. Poole, who had a hearing in Tiffin-Fostoria Municipal Court Thursday, was taken by Life Flight to Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo with head injuries. Eckelberry said Heidi Ramirez, a Tiffin-Fostoria Municipal Court probation officer, was transporting Poole from Fostoria to Seneca County Jail. Poole jumped out of the vehicle when it was on US 224, near the jail. "She jumped out to escape custody," he said. Eckelberry said Detective Jeff Smith had talked to the two probation officers who were in the car. Poole was buckled in and handcuffed, he said. She took the seatbelt off and opened the door, he said. Eckelberry said the childproof passenger locks were not in use, but he said he did not know if the probation officers knew they existed. "The door locks may have been locked," he said.
