Mario J. Iannantuono

Mario J. Iannantuono, 78, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, Oct. 15, 2017, at St. Frances Home, after a 16-month battle with lung cancer. Mario was born Aug. 15, 1939, in Tiffin, to Donato and Bambina (Pacifico) Iannantuono. He married Sue (Sponseller) Feb. 16, 1963, in St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. T.M. Downey officiating, and she survives. Mario also is survived by his three children, Andrew Iannantuono, Kelly (Iannantuono) Powhida and Terry (Carol) Iannantuono; nine grandchildren, Bradley, Matthew, Sydney, Alexis, Zachary, Kristopher, Andrea, April and Cory Iannantuono; five great-grandchildren, Sydney, Kayden, Braysen and Ambrose Iannantuono and Yazmine Arnold; a brother, Frank Iannantuono; and a sister, Philomina Reamer. Mario was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Zachary, Tony and Johnny Iannantuono; and a son-in-law, Steve Powhida. He attended Tiffin Calvert High School. He was retired from American Standard after 35 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and had an honorable discharge from the Army National Guard after six years of service. Mario enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in all of their sporting activities. He also enjoyed all his many "road trips" with his great friends, his travels and many bus trips to various designations. Mario volunteered to clean at St. Mary Church for 20 years. He always said he was "Riding his Hoover to Heaven." He was a member of Tiffin VFW, American Legion, Moose, Eagles, DAV and AMVETs. His Mass of Christian burial will begin at noon Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, with the Rev. Anthony J. Coci officiating. A rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Tiffin, with military rites being rendered by United Veterans Council. Visitation for family and friends will be 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday at the church. Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin, is assisting the family with their arrangements.
