Board sets Nov. 7 ballot

Seneca County Board of Elections members made final certifications of candidates and issues for the Nov. 7 election Wednesday evening. Board Deputy Director Lori Ritzler said petitions were due Aug. 9 and some write-in candidates likely are to put their names in for consideration before the election. Deadline for write-in candidates to run in the election is at 4 p.m. Aug. 28. Ritzler said all villages have four seats to be won, with townships having two and school boards three. At the end of the meeting Wednesday, the following candidates and issues had been certified for the Nov. 7 ballot: Attica Village Council: Louis Sanders, Kirk Stanfield, Ed Treft and George Yakoubian. Bettsville Village Council: Linda Davis, Scott Harrison, William Klaiss Jr., Daniel Kracher, Stan B. Poe, Gilberto Rojas Jr., Robert Toy Jr. and Tammy Waugaman. Bloomville Village Council: David Auble Jr. and Raymond Sexton. New Riegel Village Council: Dale Nye and write-in candidate James W. Bodart. Republic Village Council: Debra Bogart-Durr, Renee M. Lacy, Jeffrey L. Moyer, Michael Oberlander and Kevin Thompson. Adams Township trustee: David Carrothers and Bret Cleveland. Big Spring Township trustee: Anthony Faeth and Stephen Schalk. Bloom Township trustee: Ronald E. Fry and Troy Kagy. Clinton Township trustee: Jim Distel, Dennis Kingseed and Dennis E. Moyer. Eden Township trustee: Bill Wise, David Ziegler, Verne Shellhouse and Chris Fry. Hopewell Township trustee: Richard J. Gosche and Lori Zoeller. Jackson Township trustee: Dottie Colbert, Richard Findley and Stephen Naderer. Liberty Township trustee: Joseph Kimmet and Jeffrey Lynch. Fostoria City School Board member: Patrick Grine, Heidi Kauffman, Sharon K. Standard and Anthony Thompson. Hopewell-Loudon School Board member: Adam Alt, Jill Biedelschies, Michael Kuyken Jr., Richard Osterwalder, Cynthia Suter and Justin Wyman. Mohawk School Board member: Kathy Koehler and Brenda Luhring. New Riegel School Board member: Jeff Hohman and Jaclyn Schalk. Old Fort School Board member: Larry J. Bowman, Jay Pence and Valerie Steyer. Seneca East School Board member: Jamie Beamer, Gina Ganni and Daniel Stacklin. Tiffin City School Board member: Jeffrey Hoyda, Victor H. Perez, Randall C. Schwartz and Christopher Widman. Bellevue City School Board member: Neil Carson, Jennifer Manbeck Rogers and Stephen Rucker. Clyde-Green Springs School Board: Michael L. Cleveland, Crystal Henson and Patricia Punty. Lakota School Board: Kurt Brewer, Fred E. Keith Jr. and Timothy Woodruff. North Central Ohio Educational Service Center board member for District 2: Steven Snavely. Seneca County voters will decide on a 10-year, 0.7-mill levy for Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Seneca, Sandusky and Wyandot Counties and a five-year, 0.3-mill renewal levy for Seneca County Commission on Aging. In Tiffin, voters are to decide on a five-year, 0.25-percent income tax increase. Voters in the Third Ward's Precinct B will decide if Buffalo Wild Wings will be permitted to sell wine and spirituous liquor 10 a.m.-midnight on Sundays. Voters in the Third Ward's Precinct D will decide if Coco's Sports Bar and Grill will be permitted to sell wine and spirituous liquor 10 a.m.-midnight on Sundays. Voters in the Second Ward's Precinct C will decide if Double Barrell Bar and Grill will be permitted to sell wine and spirituous liquor 10 a.m.-midnight on Sundays. Voters in the Fourth Ward's Precinct C will decide if GW's Fine Food and Spirits will be permitted to sell wine and spirituous liquor 10 a.m.-midnight on Sundays. Voters in the Second Ward's Precinct A will decide if Stiney's Three Oaks will be permitted to sell wine and spirituous liquor 10 a.m.-midnight on Sundays. Voters in Republic will decide if Fatheads will be permitted to sell wine and spirituous liquor 10 a.m.-midnight on Sundays and if Smokey's Family Restaurant and Tap will be permitted to do the same. Voters in Bettsville will decide on a four-year, 3-mill renewal levy for fire protection. Bettsville and Liberty Township voters will decide on a five-year, 0.4-mill renewal tax for Bettsville Public Library. Eden Township voters will decide on a 0.4-mill replacement levy for emergency medical services. Bloom and Scipio township voters will decide on a 1.54-mill levy for ambulance and emergency medical services. Mohawk School District voters will decide on a 1-percent income tax increase that would expire in 2020. Voters in Fostoria will decide on a five-year, 6-mill property tax. The board of elections meeting was the first held in the board's new home at 71 S. Washington St. Board employees moved into the office Aug. 3. Board member Mary Puffenberger said she believes the public will appreciate the new office. "There is so much more space," she said. Board member David Koehl agreed, saying he has heard only positive feedback from those who have seen the new space.
