Mall, eatery closed

Xcaret Mexican Restaurant and Tiffin Mall, 870 W. Market St., were closed Thursday. Xcaret Manager Luis Perz said the restaurant was closed for the day because the restaurant partially was flooded from water that came through the ceiling at the former RadioShack store, flooding the area, including part of the restaurant. The only damage at Xcaret was lost business, he said. Perz said as long as the restaurant is dry this morning, it should be open today. "This has never really happened before. It was just too much water," he said. Hostess Linda Shoemaker also said a sewer drain popped open in the entrance to the mall by the restaurant. The Rev. Phil Moredyk, of Family of Faith Lutheran Church, which meets in the mall, said the church also received water damage from roof leakage. He said no high-priced items were damaged, but some chairs, carpeting and ceiling tiles will need to be replaced. He said church representatives are to discuss with mall ownership what each is responsible for and what insurance covers. "It's just one of those things that happen," he said. "We will work with the owners to get the issue taken care of." While a sign on the door of Xcaret said the restaurant would open at it's normal time today, 11 a.m., it is uncertain if the mall will be open. Messages left with owners of Tiffin Mall, Key Hotel and Property Management, of Toledo, were not returned Thursday evening.
