Deputy still in hospital Wednesday

A Seneca County Sheriff's Office deputy who was shot in the shoulder remained hospitalized a day after Tuesday's shooting in Clinton Township. Seneca County Sheriff Bill Eckelberry said Luke Cantu, a road deputy in training, was taken by Life Flight to Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center, and he remained there Wednesday evening. Cantu's condition was not available Wednesday. Tiffin Police Department had received a 911 call about a man with a gun at 133 Schonhardt St. about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. In the 911 recording, which the police department released Wednesday, a woman can be heard telling the dispatcher her husband had a rifle and had ripped the handle off her car, and she ran down the street. "I have a restraining order against him. … He must've been following me," she told the dispatcher. The estranged wife of Scott Bloomfield, 34, filed a civil protection order against him April 7, and Bloomfield was ordered to stay 500 feet from her, court records show. In the CPO, Bloomfield was accused of bypassing changed door locks and entering the house, turning off the utilities and duct-taping a cat's legs. He also was accused in the CPO of verbally threatening the woman's life, telling her she was lucky to be alive on multiple occasions and tying her to furniture for extended periods of time. Tiffin Police Department responded to Schonhardt Street after the woman called 911. Seneca County Sheriff's Office checked the man's residence on CR 36. About 2 p.m., the sheriff's office received a 911 call that a person had barged into the residence at 92 N. Tecumseh Trail and was threatening to shoot a man. Tiffin Police Department officers found Bloomfield's Chevrolet truck on North Tecumseh Trail, and Bloomfield had a high-powered rifle and a scope. An exchange of gunfire took place between Bloomfield and law enforcement officers. Chief Fred Stevens of Tiffin Police Department said officials believed a Tiffin Police Department officer was responsible for the fatal shooting of Bloomfield. Officers said Bloomfield was pronounced dead with a gunshot wound to his neck at Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital at 2:24 p.m. Lt. Mark Marquis of Tiffin Police Department said Bloomfield's body was taken for an autopsy at Lucas County Coroner's Office. The results were unknown Wednesday afternoon, he said. Bloomfield allegedly stabbed Johnny Reino, 25, who was in the Tecumseh Trail house, according to law enforcement. Reino was taken by his mother to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital's emergency room and was flown by Life Flight by Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center. Eckelberry said he said he was unsure whether Reino still was there Wednesday evening. Lt. Aaron Russell of Tiffin Police Department said a Dodge Charger cruiser was out of commission Wednesday due to being part of the investigation. Officials hadn't had an opportunity to assess the damage, he said. "BCI takes all the evidence," he said. Another cruiser that had been at the scene was being put back into road usage, he said. Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident. Jeff Cook, special agent supervisor for Ohio BCI, said officials would gather facts and present them to the county prosecutor. The prosecutor would determine whether it is warranted to be presented to a grand jury, he said. Seneca County Prosecutor Derek DeVine said he would review the case and decide how to move forward. "Luckily, we don't have a whole lot of these situations," he said.
