Man charged after search

CLYDE — A Green Springs man was arrested after a search at Beaver Creek Reservoir Tuesday. Seneca County Sheriff's Office received a call about 7:30 p.m. for a welfare check at the reservoir. Sgt. Larry Mackling said Mitchell D. Selvey, 27, was there and had told his family in a text message that he was going to harm himself. Deputy Jeff Smith arrived first, and Selvey was sitting on the ground with a revolver, Mackling said. Selvey set the gun on the ground beside him but then jumped up, grabbed the gun and ran, he said. Law enforcement officers searched for him, and he came out of a thicket and walked up to a lane at the reservoir. He was not complying initially and had to be shot with a Taser, Mackling said. He was not injured. Selvey was taken into custody and checked by North Central EMS. The ambulance and Green Springs Rural Volunteer Fire Department had been on standby. Selvey was being charged with inducing panic, carrying a concealed weapon and obstruction Tuesday night. He does not have a concealed carry permit, Mackling said. Selvey went to Seneca County Jail and was to speak to Firelands Counseling and Recovery Services. State Highway Patrol and Tiffin Police Department assisted.
