Tiffin salon Head Shed gets new co-owner

The Head Shed, a salon that has been operating in Tiffin since the 1970s, has a new co-owner. Serena Costantini, who has worked as a stylist at Head Shed for nine years, recently became co-owner of the salon, said Chris Nominee, who also owns the business. Nominee's previous business partner of more than seven years, Margie Hodges, still is to work as a stylist, Nominee said. "I just thought it was time to step down a little bit," Hodges said. "I didn't want to give it up totally, I really enjoy being around the people and the girls. We're like a big family in here." Hodges owned the salon for 31 years, she said, and has worked there for 40 years. Her friend originally opened the business in 1972, she said, and she began working there a few years later. "I've had two wonderful partners," Hodges said. "It's always been a friendly atmosphere and I enjoy doing hair." For now, Hodges has no plans to retire, she said. Instead, she will be at the salon three days a week. Costantini said she hopes to see the salon progress and is excited for her future as co-owner. "I just see the potential for the salon's future," Costantini said. "It's a great business. It's a business where the leadership has really progressed along. I'm hoping to continue the tradition." Nominee said remodeling might be in the future for the salon. So far, the transition of having a new co-owner has been smooth, she said. "We're starting to get our flow," Nominee said of her and Costantini. Nominee said the salon has 13 stylists and offers services including perms, hair coloring, highlights, manicures, pedicures, massage and foot detox. Head Shed is located at 716 W. Market St. and is open 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Mondays, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays. An open house with refreshments and door prizes is scheduled for Feb. 7, Nominee said.
