Megan Zuern

After a courageous two-year battle with cancer, Megan Nicole Zuern, 29, of Kelso, Washington, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017. Megan was born Dec. 10, 1987, in Tiffin. Megan is survived by her parents, Debbie (Bruce) Lewin of Kelso, Washington, and Richard Zuern of Tiffin, and her two siblings, Melissa Hall of Findlay and Brandon Zuern of Austin, Texas. She graduated with honors from Columbian High School in 2006, earned a bachelor's degree in history with a minor in Asian studies from Bowling Green State University in 2009, and a master's degree in library and information science from Kent State University in 2012. Megan previously was employed as a bookseller at Half Price Books; as a practicum assistant at Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum; and held various positions at Columbus Metropolitan Library, Columbus State Community College and Grandview Heights Public Library. The loves of her life were her dear animals — her "fur-babies" — a dachshund, Reed Richards, and two cats, Freya and Isadora. A lifelong learner, Megan's greatest passions included books, literature, mythology and history. She absorbed information and delighted in sharing it with others. She found immense joy in playing pinball, watching and critiquing horror movies, assembling Lego kits, reading comic books and playing board and video games. She was quite interested in all things related to Batman and had a special fondness for Adam West and Cesar Romero's portrayals of Batman and the Joker. She often explored the city for new dining experiences. A self-proclaimed "foodie," she celebrated the cultures of the world through their cuisines, dining on all things Asian, Latin and Indian. She frequented Dough Mama of the Short North for their many delicacies and Lil Donut Factory of Hilliard for their maple bacon cream-sticks. She loved poutine, barbecue and fresh mozzarella cheese. Megan was passionate about feminism, equality and helping those in need. A memorial service is being planned for summer 2017, with details to be provided at a later date. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Cancer Patient Services of Hancock County, Eastern Woods Radiology Oncology, Findlay, Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay, and James Cancer Center – The Ohio State University for their dedicated care and kindness throughout her illness.
