Flavel Joseph Heyman

Flavel Joseph Heyman, 85, of Upper Sandusky, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus. He was born May 26, 1931, to Flavel E. and Mary Leona (Shultz) Heyman. He married Clara (Thiel) Heyman Jan. 28, 1956, and she died May 26, 1985. He graduated from Tiffin Calvert High School with the class of 1949. Mr. Heyman was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Navy attached to the U.S. Marines from 1951-1955. He was an agricultural farmer and worked for over 27 years as a production supervisor at the former Westinghouse/A.O. Smith. He was a member of Transfiguration of The Lord Catholic Parish, Upper Sandusky, where he was a lecturer and eucharistic minister. Mr. Heyman was a member and past Grand Knight of the K of C No. 2050. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 225 and Wyandot County Senior Club, where he was past president and head of the euchre program. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, completing crossword puzzles and his faithful companion, Lady. Mr. Heyman is survived by seven children, Flavel (Diane) Heyman of Paxton, Illinois, Catherine (Ernest) Zellner of Westfield, Indiana, Rock (Patricia Bednarik) Heyman of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Linda (Dan) Tebbe of St. Marys, Roger (Jackie) Heyman of Forest, Lance (Karol) Heyman of Grove City and Diane (Todd) Dible of Ottawa; 12 grandchildren, Flavel (Megan) Heyman, Forrest (Laura) Chaddock-Heyman, Claire Heyman, Sharon (Matt) Kill, Kathleen (Andrew) Hall, Brandon Heyman, Kelli (Josh) Wright, Emma Heyman, Anna Heyman, Emily Dible, Jacob Dible and Alec Dible; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Heyman of Tiffin; and his special friend, Marilyn Spitler of Upper Sandusky. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Phelps and a brother, Donald Heyman. His Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at Transfiguration of The Lord Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky, with Fr. Nicholas Weibl officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Upper Sandusky, with military honors conducted by Upper Sandusky Veterans Color Guard. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, with a Catholic prayer service at 7:30 p.m. in Bringman Clark Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky.
