Elma F. Ankney

Elma F. Ankney, 91, of 308 W. 8th St., Sycamore, died at 1:13 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, at Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital. She was born July 2, 1925, in Sycamore, to the late Russell and Mildred (Clingman) Riedel. She married Kenneth W. Ankney Nov. 30, 1944, and he preceded her in death July 24, 1993.Surviving are two children, Duane (Nancy) Ankney of Ottawa Hills and Deb (Steve) McKee of Lexington; four grandchildren, J.P. Ankney, Elizabeth Ankney, Brian Mckee and Cory (Hannah) McKee; a sister, Delores Hushour of rural Sycamore; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Elsie Koons; and one brother, Bill Riedel. Elma was a homemaker, a lunch cashier for many years for Mohawk School system and the bookkeeper for Ankney Electric. She was a 1943 graduate of Sycamore High School, was the class valedictorian, member of Sycamore United Church of Christ, former member of the church consistory and member of Women's Guild of the church. She was a member of Sycamore Women's Literary Club, former member of Sycamore Little Theatre, a member of P.E.O. Sorority, member of Sycamore American Legion Auxiliary, a charter member of Mohawk Historical Society, Mohawk Sixty-Plus Club and a former Girl Scout leader. For hobbies, Elma enjoyed talking and being with people (investing in their lives) and sending out numerous cards to people for all occasions and accomplishments in their life. She loved to read and, earlier in her life, did a lot of cooking and baking, which she shared with her family and friends. Her funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, at Sycamore United Church of Christ with Pastor Alan Hennis officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore.Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, and Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the church. The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital for the great care and kindness given to the care of Elma during her time there.
