Display added to vet memorial

BLOOMVILLE – Bloomville Veterans’ Memorial has added to its display. Councilwoman Carol Adams told other council members Wednesday night the statue of the “Fallen Soldier,” displaying a helmet, rifle and boots, sits in the middle of a paved area highlighting a star-shaped design inside a five-sided sitting wall with pillars at each point. Village Solicitor Tim Hoover said Ohio House Bill 523 regarding medical marijuana has no state rules established for communities to follow. He said one has to have a serious disease to access marijuana and one is not able to possess, sell or distribute it at present. It still is illegal to possess marijuana, according to federal law. Hoover said communities are deciding whether they want marijuana dispensaries at all or for a period of time. It was noted the village has a drug-free employee policy. Hoover is to draft an ordinance for council’s consideration at the next meeting. Street Superintendent Rick Dentinger reported Renosys, the company that installed the liner for the swimming pool, painted a portion of the north wall liner recently to test if staining still develops. They now want to paint the entire liner to see if staining bleeds through while the liner still is under a 15-year warranty. The company wants to accomplish the painting this fall but Dentinger prefers waiting until spring. Council approved having the liner painted but Dentinger is to contact the company and get in writing the exact procedure to be done. Story time begins at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at Bliss Memorial Public Library and continues on Tuesdays after. Starting Oct. 12, Wednesdays are for toddler time. The library’s Halloween celebration is 1-3 p.m. Oct. 22 at the fire house. Mayor Steve George noted a certified letter had been sent to a property owner to have their lawn mowed but had no response. The village is considering mowing the lawn. Members discussed trash service for the village. The contract expires in February and they are going to advertise for bids. In other matters, council: Adopted a resolution accepting the amounts and rates set by the budget commission, and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county auditor. Approved an ordinance amending a previous ordinance for appropriation of additional funds for expenses, waiving the three-reading rule. Approved the purchase of a 40-amp battery charger. Discussed trees needing cut down and street chipping. Announced Oktoberfest happening at Garlo Heritage Nature Preserve Oct. 2. Set trick-or-treat for 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 31. Council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 5.
