Two hurt in crash at US 224, TR 101

Two people were hurt when a van and truck collided at US 224 and TR 101 Tuesday afternoon. Trooper Jake Mellinger of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol said both vehicles, a 2009 Dodge Caravan and 2005 Ford F-150, were westbound on US 224. Mellinger said Justin Brose, 19, of Fostoria, was driving the Dodge Caravan ahead of the Ford F-150 and started to make a left turn onto TR 101. The vehicle then cut back into its lane to turn right. The Ford F-150, which was driven by Mark Szymanowski, 34, of Oak Harbor, struck the Dodge Caravan, a stop sign and a utility pole, which was snapped. Brose’s passengers, Misty Waters and Molly Tobin, both 19, were taken by ambulance to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Mellinger said. Brose, Szymanowski and Szymanowski’s passenger, Madison E. Szymanowski, 12, were not transported to a hospital. Brose was cited with a changing lanes safely violation, Mellinger said. Everyone was wearing a seatbelt, he said. Personnel from Bascom EMS, Bascom Joint Fire District, NBS EMS, the county’s Echo unit, Loudon Township, North Central Electric Cooperative and State Highway Patrol responded to the crash, which occurred about 3 p.m.
