Move in works for Jolly's

Tiffin residents soon may have to go to an unfamiliar place to get a familiar glass of root beer. Diane Hassinger, owner of Jolly’s Drive-In, 1630 W. Market St., said the restaurant’s last day of the season is to be Aug. 21. “We do a countdown each year,” she said. Hassinger said she has been in discussions with Tim Hortons for over a year to sell the property. “If the sale goes through, I plan on closing Jolly’s (at the current location) and moving to the old bake shop building,” she said. “We will still have the food truck at different locations.” The new location would be at 116 S. Washington St. Hassinger said she plans to finalize the sale Sept. 12., but she said anything is possible. Regardless of how things turn out, she said Jolly’s would remain part of Tiffin. “We’re still going to have (Jolly’s),” Hassinger said. “I’m proud of it, my grandpa started it and I’m going to keep it going.” Hassinger said she thought it was “very probable” the deal would be finalized. “It’s a 98 or 99 percent chance,” she said. Hassinger said customers still would be able to purchase the same Jolly’s products, regardless of what happens with the sale. “(Jolly’s) is not over, it’s just downsizing” she said. “We’ll have the same food and the same root beer at a different location.” Hassinger, who said she has worked at Jolly’s her whole life, said she started helping her dad with the family business after her mother died in 1980. “I’ve been doing this for 36 years,” she said. “It’s just what we do, we keep plugging away.”
