Officer's weapon discharge investigated

Tiffin Police Department and Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections are investigating a discharge of a weapon handled by a parole officer for Ohio Adult Parole Authority Tuesday morning. Officers were summoned to Monroe Street Tuesday morning for an accidental weapon discharge, a police report states. The police department’s incident report states Charles S. Boes, 40, told an officer he was getting ready for work. He put on his duty belt, picked up his handgun and “charged” the weapon, placing a round into the barrel. He told the officer he removed the magazine and went to put the gun down on the bed, and somehow, the weapon discharged, it states. The round struck and passed through a window at the northeast corner of the room. A special agent from Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was summoned. The special agent determined the round went toward a home on Circular Street and may have gone over the roof and not struck the house, the report states. JoEllen Smith, spokeswoman for Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, which includes APA, said officials will conduct an internal investigation, which is standard procedure, to determine whether there was any wrongdoing. They will determine an appropriate course of action based on the findings of the investigation, she said.
