Man pleads guilty to several charges

A Tiffin man pleaded guilty to four charges in Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Steve Shuff’s courtroom Tuesday morning. Matthew P. Haubert, 26, pleaded guilty to charges of identity fraud, a fourth-degree felony; and forgery, theft and receiving stolen property, all fifth-degree felonies. Stephanie Reed, assistant Seneca County prosecutor, said Haubert opened credit cards in another man’s name and used them. The victim is the landlord of Haubert’s residence and previously lived there, she said. Shuff revoked Haubert’s bond when his attorney, Joseph Hada, said he admitted to smoking marijuana a couple of weeks ago. Shuff said his bond required no consumption or possession of any illegal controlled substance. “Marijuana is an illegal controlled substance,” he said. A pre-sentence report was ordered, and Haubert is to be in Seneca County Jail until he is sentenced. The joint sentence recommendation is Haubert serve three years of community control, undergo random drug and/or alcohol urinalysis, undergo a substance abuse assessment as directed by Adult Parole Authority, continue counseling through Firelands Counseling and Recovery Services and pay restitution of $1,768.14.
