McPherson principal resigning

CLYDE – Clyde-Green Springs Board of Education members entered into executive session immediately after opening the meeting Monday evening to discuss the employment or dismissal of a public employee. Back in open session, members modified the printed agenda to present a motion to accept the resignation of Rachael Aldrich, principal at McPherson Middle School, effective June 30. The vote was 4-1 in favor, with Denise Hamrick abstaining. Superintendent Dave Stubblebine reported the preschool program has outgrown its accommodations at Clyde Elementary School and will be moving to First United Methodist Church, with the program to be run by North Point Educational Service. Included in the personnel action was a motion for approval of a two-year unpaid leave of absence for Brenda Williams, who plans to move her family to China in July. She has the opportunity to teach second grade at the Beijing BISS International School and she is to notify the Clyde superintendent of her intent to return to the district or resign upon her return no later than May 1, 2018. Board members discussed the need for elementary physical education and art teachers, because Clyde Elementary and Green Springs Elementary are sharing teachers. Hiring of a full-time gifted teacher was brought into the discussion. The board questioned the need for the teachers and whether salaries had been included in the 2017 budget. Curriculum Director Joe Letterhos volunteered to prioritize needs. He said the elementary teachers will affect many more students, as there are only 16 in the gifted program. Board members asked Treasurer Meghan Rohde to investigate salary amounts in the 2017 budget and plan to schedule a work session to further discuss the topic. In other action, board members: Approved the transfer of $448,718.75 from the General Fund to the Permanent Improvement Fund in the same amount as required for the June 1 interest and principal payments on the Ohio School Facilities Commission bonds which will be paid from the Debt Service Fund. Transferred $115,182 from the General Fund to the Classroom Facilities Maintenance Fund required by the OSFC from the proceeds of the 1 percent earned income tax. Approved an updated five-year forecast. Approved the budget of the Clyde Public Library for the fiscal year beginning Jan. 1. Approved the elementary summer school program set for June 14-July 14 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Approved the high school summer program-OGT intervention for social studies, science, reading and writing, and math June 13-June 26; VLA session I-June 6-23, VLA session II-July 11-28. Sessions are 9-11 a.m. Monday through Thursday. Approved staff personnel action. Employed Tracy Nicely as director and a teacher for the elementary summer school program. Non-renewed a limited contract for Leah Coffey substituting for a newly created intervention specialist position at McPherson Middle School. Non-renewed the limited contract for Amanda Studer, full-time substitute teacher, after substituting in Spanish for a position not filled. Approved 2016-17 membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Approved the contract between Clyde-Green Springs and the Northern Ohio Educational Computer Association for computer services July 1-June 30, 2017. Approved the agreement between the Seneca County Board of Developmental Disabilities and the Clyde-Green Springs Schools for next school year. Accepted gifts and donations to the schools. Approved paying Joyce Dupont, outgoing treasurer, for all accrued and unused vacation, equaling 22 hours. The school board is to meet next at 6 p.m. June 27.
