Supporting Jeremy Nutter

I was disappointed to learn Hopewell-Loudon’s administration chose to non-renew Jeremy Nutter’s contract as head football coach. The 2015 Chieftain football team overcame the loss of one of their best players in the first game of the year to post a solid 6-4 record in the tough BVC. Injuries forced Coach Nutter to shuffle his lineup and use some kids who were pretty small on both lines of scrimmage. Those kids never backed down. They showed a lot of heart and, more often than not, outplayed their bigger opponents. Coach Nutter was respected by his players and peers. I enjoyed reading Matt Nye’s article in the Sunday Advertiser-Tribune. Coach Nutter’s impact on his players definitely went way beyond football and I’m guessing there are a lot more stories out there like Matt Nye’s. I feel that the Hopewell-Loudon football team under Coach Nutter’s tenure always portrayed the school in a positive light. There are many good coaches at Hopewell-Loudon and I’m sure they all took notice when one of their peers was forced out for “paper work” issues. An environment where coaches need to watch their back is not a positive one. Matt Arnold, Tiffin
