Joan M. Consolo

Joan M. Consolo, 88, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday afternoon, Dec. 6, 2015, at Mercy Tiffin Hospital. She was born Sept. 5, 1927, in Attica, to Nick and Elsie (Rhoads) Brette. Sept. 5, 1953, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bellevue, she married Dr. Charles W. Consolo, and he preceded her in death in 1967. Survivors include three sons, Charles (LuAnn) Consolo, Chris Consolo and Dr. Joel (Michelle) Consolo, all of Tiffin; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Paul Brette; and two sisters, Rena Beraducci and Donna Hayes. Joan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, graduated from Chatfield High School and attended Heidelberg College. She briefly modeled in New York City, and was a lifetime member of the St. Francis Auxiliary, a member of Daughters of Isabella, Emblem Club, volunteered at Betty Jane Center, Mercy Tiffin Hospital and many community organizations. After her husband’s premature death, she was instrumental in starting intensive critical care at Mercy Tiffin Hospital, later becoming the intensive care unit. Joan enjoyed traveling the world, including the Holy Land, China and Europe, and enjoyed oil painting. Her Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S.
