Sycamore man sentenced for theft

By Jill Gosche Online Editor jgosche@advertiser-tribune.com A Sycamore man was sentenced to prison for selling tractor trailers he did not own to New Riegel Elevator. Rocky J. Danner, 33, appeared in Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Steve Shuff’s courtroom Monday afternoon. Shuff sentenced him to 17 months in prison on a charge of grand theft, a fourth-degree felony, and six months on a charge of theft, a fifth-degree felony, and ordered them served consecutively. The prosecution will not object to Danner’s release from prison after 30 days if he has good behavior while in prison and provides a plan to pay restitution. Brian Boos, assistant Seneca County prosecutor, said the prosecution’s ultimate goal was to facilitate as much restitution as possible. Danner was ordered to pay $22,900 to New Riegel Elevator and had paid $800 as of Monday. He was given credit for 62 days of jail time already served. Danner is serving a 60-day jail sentence for a misdemeanor assault that occurred March 20. Jonathan Stotzer, Danner’s attorney, said he entered into a contract, which the victim apparently did not keep a copy of, and he had no ability to repay the money after his arrest. Danner said he wanted to get the victim paid back as soon as possible. “I’m sorry for all this,” he said.
