Singer/musician coming to revival of opera house

MELMORE- The Mohawk Historical Society cordially invites the public to attend a free concert in the historic 1910 Eden Town Hall in Melmore. At 7 p.m. Thursday, Dan Opperman takes to the stage. Opperman has performed with orchestras, small bands, piano accompanists and pre-recorded music. His vocal style includes those of Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin and Nat King Cole. His shows include jazz, pop, country and swing standards. Opperman has been a featured singer for the Zenobia Dixie Cats and the Johnny Knoor orchestra. He is a regular performer at annual events including the Toledo Italian-American festival, Crosby Garden’s Festival of the Arts, the Glass Heritage festival and community, private and corporate events. He has performed on the stage of the Grand Old Opry and was a regular performer on a Houston, Texas, television program. The historical society purchased the opera house from the Eden Township Trustees last December, and the membership is anxious to show it off. Floor and balcony seating holds about 150 patrons. The floor seating features original 1910 high-back wooden seats. Church pews are in the balcony. The back wall of the raised oval stage has a pastoral painting of a dirt road winding through the corn fields, leading to the village of Melmore. Melmore, Sycamore and Tiffin business advertisements, found on a 1937 stage curtain, provide the border. The hall is one of a handful of opera houses that still exist in northwest Ohio.
