Martha B. 'Marty' Mokry

Martha B. “Marty” Mokry, 83, of Tiffin, passed away Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin. She was born Sept. 26, 1931, in West Lafayette, to John Clifford and Alta (Garner) Briner. In June 1951, she married Robert F. Mokry, and he preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter, Marcia (Stephen) Shockley-Rhoad of Tiffin; a son, Rob (Gretchen) Mokry of San Francisco, California; three sisters, Cherie (Norman) Cole of West Virginia, Beverly (Bernie) Craft of Florida and Mary Nan Bond of Ohio; and four grandchildren, Robert C. Mokry, Christopher D. Shockley, Stephanie L. Shockley and Alicia Mokry. Also preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, Clifford Briner. Marty graduated from Ward-Belmont School for Girls in Nashville, Tennessee, and earned a master’s degree in education from The Ohio State University. She taught home economics and vocational education in Columbus for more than 25 years. Education was a fundamental part of her life. Marty lived in Columbus most of her life and later moved to Tiffin. She enjoyed wintering in Florida for many years, was an avid reader and adored her grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the many caregivers at Autumnwood Care Center for their love and care. There will be no visitation or services. Burial will be later in West Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center. Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
