Alvin B. McDannell

Alvin “Butch” B. McDannell, 70, of Bucyrus, died at 11:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, at his home. He was born Oct. 3,1944, in Alum Bank, Pennsylvania, to Victor and Virginia (Stewart) McDannell Sandy. He married Vickie (May) McDannell May 28,1971, and she survives. Also surviving are four children, Michael (Liz) McDannell of Williamsport, Maryland, Raymond McDannell of Manchester, New Hampshire, April (Larry) Williams of Tiro and Keith (Laura) McDannell of Sycamore;10 grandchildren, Jack McDannell, Adam McDannell, Davey Williams, Nia McDannell, Skylar Johnson, Rusti Burks, Dalton Burks, Kyle McDannell, Heather Whittington and Marcus Whittington; two great-grandchildren, Kamdyn McDannell and Ella May Hoose; five sisters, Mary Carol Hill, Marie Wakefield, Nora Phelps, Cheryl Sheward and Sandy Branham; and eight brothers, Al Wakefield, Burt Ripley, Paul Ripley, Lee Copeland, Glenn McDannell, Bill McDannell, Larry McDannell and Carl McDannell. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Cramer; and his parents. He was an owner/operator truck driver, hauling for Power Source Transportation in Griffith, Indiana. He had traveled more than 4 million miles, getting to 48 states and all the provinces of Canada. His handle was Waterdog. For hobbies, he loved gardening and, especially, being with his grandchildren and family. He also was a Vietnam War veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force. A funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, west of Sycamore, where Sycamore American Legion Post No. 250 will conduct a military graveside service. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
