Cops: Student death thought suicide

The death of Tiffin University sophomore Jalen Robinson is being investigated as an apparent suicide, according to Jennifer Boucher, TU’s director of safety. Sgt. Rich Weiner of Columbus Police Department said Robinson was found at 3:45 p.m. Saturday at Innis Park by a passerby. Robinson committed suicide with a firearm, Weiner said. “The entire Tiffin University community was very sorry to learn of his death.” said TU President Paul Marion. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.” The university had reported a week ago to the Tiffin Police Department that Robinson was suicidal. At TU, Robinson was a member of the wrestling team and a resident assistant, according to the school. He had transfered to TU and had not declared a major. TU’s Office of Student Affairs sent a release to update the TU community Monday. According to the release, TU is to wait to hear from Robinson’s family regarding a memorial service in Columbus. TU is in the process of planning a local memorial service for Robinson, too. The university continues to encourage students, faculty and staff to take advantage of counseling resources available on campus, according to the release.
