Wick re-elected to Norwalk school board

Lisa Wick will return to the Norwalk City Schools board of education, which will have a new face.Wick and Duane "Dewey" Moore will join Steve Linder Ralph Ritzenthaler and Beth Schnellinger on the board. John Lendrum declined to seek re-election, having served on the board for 24 years. According to the unofficial results from the Huron County Board of Elections, Wick had 2,171 votes, there were 1,947 for retired teacher Moore and 1,576 votes for local businessman Jeremy Norris."I'm excited," said Wick, who will start her second four-year term in early January. "The four years has given me a lot to go on. With John leaving, it's big shoes to fill; I hope I do him right."Wick has been the board president for the last two years. Her background includes coaching volleyball at Perkins high and middle schools for 10 years plus secretarial work in the same district. Wick's son is a Norwalk High School graduate.She said she will continue to be someone who talks to parents and "the people who work at the school" and will bring that back to her fellow board members."I'm going to continue to be that voice," Wick added.Moore taught math at NHS and Norwalk Middle School for 28 years total. He coached junior high football, tennis and was an assistant baseball coach at Norwalk. Upon retiring from the district in 1999, Moore was an adjunct lecturer at BGSU Firelands until 2017 and also a math coordinator."Thanks to the voters of Norwalk for having the confidence in me to represent them on the board of education. I look forward to working with the other board members to better our educational system. My goal is to unify the board once again and have a board our superintendent, George Fisk, can work with," Moore said.Regarding the results, Wick said "Norwalk got it wrong" by voting for Moore, but said she will have a working relationship with him."He has been out of the loop," she added.Norris and his wife Crystal have four children currently attending Norwalk schools. He served eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps and received an honorable discharge as a sergeant. Norris is the owner and operator of Norris Protective Services and Norris Lawn & Home Service."I learned when you're retired, you have a lot more time time go to door to door than the working person. I'm disappointed I didn't win," said Norris, who believes Norwalk is facing "the dawn of a new day" with Dave Light being elected as mayor over incumbent Rob Duncan.Norris said he may run for school board again."I wish everybody luck, We'll go again the next time," he said.NorrisWick
