Martin Baumgardner

Martin Baumgardner, 78, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2020, at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina, due to a massive heart attack. Martin was born and grew up in Tiffin, the son of John T. and Luella (Dehn) Baumgardner and the grandson of Carl and Gertrude Baumgardner, who lived at 241 Melmore Street, Tiffin, until 1953, and Carl operated The Baumgardner Company block plant behind their house and The Baumgardner Company on Miami Street. He is survived by an older sister, Mary Sue Shay, of Champaign, Ilinois; and two brothers, Dr. Jan Baumgardner and Carl Forest both of Boulder, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Nida (Blago) Baumgardner; and three Aunts, Mary Crates, Martha Hamilton and Sister Betty Baumgardner.Services for Martin will be at Noon, Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at St. Joseph Church, Tiffin, and he will be buried at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Tiffin, in the same plot as his mother, Luella Baumgardner, and infant sister, Frances Elizabeth Baumgardner. Martin served honorably in the U. S. Army and was an avid horticulturalist. Donations may be directed to Linda Bowers at St. Joseph Church, 36 Melmore Street, Tiffin.
