American Plastics to invest $7 million in Tiffin facility, hosting hiring event

American Plastics, a plastic injection molding company located in Tiffin, has announced it has invested $7 million into its operations at the Tiffin plant. The investment includes the purchase of five new presses, tooling investments and other facility improvements to increase efficiency and capacity, a release from Tiffin-Seneca Economic Partnership states. In addition to the investments in the company, American Plastics has committed to increasing the wages of its staff, according to the release. Starting wages are to increase to $14.50 an hour, with a $1 an hour incentive bonus for attendance, for a total starting wage of $15.50 an hour, the release states. An outdoor hiring event has been scheduled for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27 at the American Plastics plant at 1780 CR 1. There will be open interviews, with orientations on the spot, the release states. Available positions are for first and third shift, and employees work 12-hour shifts for 15 days a month. Social distancing guidelines are to be followed at the hiring event, it states. American Plastics is a designer and manufacturer of plastic-injection molded products for home and garage storage as well as for commercial cleaning applications. With its headquarters in St. Louis, Mo., the company maintains 15 facilities across the North American continent, including locations in Sycamore and Findlay. The Tiffin facility is the sole manufacturer of shelving for the Craftsman brand, available at the more than 1,500 Lowe's stores in North America, the release states. The plant specializes in the production of plastic shelving, including Craftsman, Commander and Blue Hawk name brands for Lowe's, it states. American Plastics currently employs 142 people in Seneca County, according to the release.
