Heidelberg alum returns to Tiffin, virtually

In a virtual conversation, a 24-year ESPN Sports Center co-host spent time talking with students, alumni, faculty and community members Friday morning. John Buccigross — a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native and Heidelberg University 1988 graduate where he earned a communications/theater arts degree — talked with Tiffin University professor Bonnie Tiell and daughter Katie Tiell during the virtual Go Time. PHOTO SUBMITTED During the conversation, Buccigross talked about his time in Tiffin, the state of the sports world today and his journey to ESPN. While at Heidelberg, Buccgross played basketball and spent time on the campus radio and television stations.He said this was in pursuit of his dream of being on ESPN.Buccigross said he started out as a camera man and worked his way up, making it to ESPN where he has spent the last 24 years.While at ESPN, Buccigross said he was able to build his lifestyle brand with the use of social media and has worked on building his philanthropic efforts in donating to many charities over the years.Buccigross said he tries to return to Tiffin at least once a year, saying he loves Tiffin and was even married at St. Joseph's Church."Tiffin is an important place to me," he said.Buccigross said with the pandemic they had to become more creative on how to prepare for a job."You have to stand out just a little big from the person next to you," Buccigross said.
