It is so great to be a part of Catholic education in Tiffin. Seeing our students do so well, our families so involved and the community so supportive, is a blessing to me every day as the Head of School! Holding our first annual Calvert Day of Giving (October 20) confirmed how truly blessed CCS is by the generosity of this community, our alumni, friends and families. We received over $28,000 from over 125 donors, and sincerely thank everyone who participated. Students and teachers continue to navigate the daily activities and block scheduling. The academy and high school teachers have enthusiastically embraced the extended time blocks for presenting and discussing their subjects more in-depth. To change is to grow and turning lemons into lemonade is one of the positive results of the virus. Students not able to be in school for various reasons are now able to Zoom classes and stay engaged.&emsp;Our elementary students are happy to learn daily about God's love, their core subjects and preventive social practices as they live through this historical pandemic. They participated in the Red Ribbon Week drug-free program and received inspirational wristbands, pencils and bookmarks. The preschoolers learned about fire safety from Calvert alumni Brian Hunt. First graders experienced the joy of music by creating drums, horns, guitars and clacker instruments from household items as they celebrated the story, A Musical Day. Kindergarteners celebrated Johnny Appleseed, learning all about the delicious and healthy benefits of apples. CCS has enriched their spiritual pillar through the addition of live music during First Friday Adoration Hour, provided by Rachel Snyder from All Saints Parish. Rev. Joseph Poggemeyer came from Fostoria's parish to celebrate St. Wendelin's feast day with the students October 22. Bishop Daniel E. Thomas will be celebrating mass with many of the students later this month.Student council held elections and they are moving forward with planning student activities. Members distributed craft kits and candy bags at their October 25 Halloween Trunk or Treats drive-through, and took treats to the elementary students. They also have plans to participate in Stockings for Soldiers and sponsor a Thanksgiving food drive. &emsp;&emsp;Calvert welcomed '92 alumnus Wendy Campbell as the new Tuition and Business Office Manager. She can be reached at extension 2103 or wcampbell@calvertcatholic.org.A few other noteworthy items: the 2021 (The) 52 Club tickets will be mailed out November 9, or can be picked up at the school and parish offices. They make great gifts. Also, the outdoor sitting area at the high school has been completed. The 6th grade Academy students completed Life Skills Badging Class through partnership with TU. 7th and 8th grade will follow with their 12-week course involving time management, studying, healthy living, cooking and social media safety and behavior skills.Calvert has many graduates who have successfully contributed to the greatness of our community and our country. We were recently notified that 1990 graduate, James Lee, (son of Jim and Sally Lee, and grandson of Louie and Millie Lee) was assigned as the new Chief of IRS Criminal Investigation (CL) October 1. Congratulations to him and others who continue to reflect the successful foundation they received from CCS.
